Inheritance

Inheritance reimagines the Sons of Liberty flag as a warning passed forward. The five red streaks recall the flag’s stripes, but here they fall as marks of cost, pressure, and blood-earned promise. Above them, tricorne-like stains suggest the imprint of those who first pledged themselves to liberty — not as decoration, but as duty.

The work asks what we mean to preserve when we inherit a symbol. Freedom is not permanently paid for, patriotism is not a costume, and liberty is not a phrase to be admired from a distance.

It asks whether the slogans we parade are still obligations we intend to keep — or merely something we like to stitch on our hats for pretend.
